The OAH Conference Travel Grant

The OAH Conference Travel Grant is a need-based grant of up to $1,000 is for scholars other than Ph.D. students who will be presenting at the OAH conference.

The intention of this grant is to enable contingent faculty and other presenters without personal or institutional resources to participate in SHGAPE sponsored or co-sponsored panels.

Winners will be selected by the SHGAPE program committee, on the basis of need and merit.  The award may be divided among multiple recipients, at the program committee’s discretion.  Winners will also receive a ticket to the SHGAPE luncheon, where the award will be presented. Travel grant recipients are required to join SHGAPE if they are not already members.

Applications for the 2025 OAH are due Friday, January 17, 2025. Please send the following materials in one PDF file to the Travel Grant Chair, Cathleen Cahill, at czc335@psu.edu.

  • A cover letter affirming the need for financial support and affirming that the applicant does not have an institutional affiliation OR that the applicant’s institution does not pay for conference travel.  If the latter, the applicant should attach a letter from the department chair or comparable individual explaining why there are no departmental or institutional funds to support the applicant’s conference travel
  • A copy of the applicant’s paper/presentation abstract for the OAH
  • An estimated budget, including travel costs, registration fees, accommodation, and meals, and specifying all available financial support.
  • A 2-3 page CV

OAH Conference Travel Award for Ph.D. Students.

The OAH Conference Travel Award for Ph.D. Students provides up to $1,000 for Ph.D. students who will be presenting at the OAH conference on a SHGAPE sponsored or co-sponsored panel.

Winners will be selected by the SHGAPE program committee, on the basis of merit, with need factoring in for the funding amount.  The award may be divided among multiple recipients, at the program committee’s discretion.  If there are no winners in any given year, the program committee may offer some travel support to graduate students presenting on SHGAPE sponsored panels at the AHA conference.  Winners will also receive a ticket to the SHGAPE luncheon, where the award will be presented.  Recipients are required to join SHGAPE if they are not already members.

Applications for the 2025 OAH are due Friday, January 17, 2025. Please send the following materials in one PDF file to Stacy Cordery at cordery@iastate.edu.

  • A cover letter affirming that the applicant is currently a Ph.D. student and does not expect to graduate before the OAH conference for which support is being sought
  • A copy of the applicant’s paper/presentation abstract for the OAH
  • An estimated budget, including travel costs, registration fees, accommodation, and meals, and specifying all available financial support
  • A CV
