About

OAH & AHA Meetings/SHGAPE Activities

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) co-sponsors and sponsors panels at both the annual meeting of the American Historical Association and the annual meeting of the Organization of American Historians. SHGAPE sponsorship can direct traffic to your panel. In addition, SHGAPE can sponsor panels that have not been accepted by the OAH or AHA selection committees. This can provide GAPE scholars another avenue to present at the OAH and AHA.

In addition, SHGAPE organizes workshops, roundtables, and chat room sessions at the OAH.

OAH Call for Proposals

SHGAPE is calling for panel proposals for the Organization of American Historians (OAH) Meeting and the American Historical Association (AHA) Meeting for SHGAPE sponsorship or co-sponsorship.  Sponsorship can direct traffic to your panel; or, as you’ll see below, SHGAPE can sponsor panels that have not been accepted by the OAH or AHA selection committees.

For the Organization of American Historians (OAH) Conference to be held in Washington, DC, April 2-4, 2020:

The OAH is accepting panel proposals through February 1, 2019. See: https://www.oah.org/meetings-events/meetings-events/call-for-proposals/

In addition to co-sponsoring panels accepted through the regular OAH application process, SHGAPE sponsors its own panels independently of the OAH selection committee.  To apply for SHGAPE co-sponsorship, you should submit your application through the OAH portal and also email a copy (in one .pdf file) to SHGAPE program committee chair Nancy Unger, nunger@scu.edu

This will also place your application into consideration for exclusive SHGAPE sponsorship.  Your application should include the same information requested by the OAH program committee:

– A complete mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, and affiliation for each participant, with the session organizer (contact person) clearly identified
– A title and abstract of no more than 500 words for the session as a whole
– A title and prospectus of no more than 250 words for each paper presentation (this only applies to paper sessions, not to panel, roundtable, or state of the field proposals)
– A biography of no more than 500 words for each participant

The SHGAPE application deadline is February 15, 2019.

AHA Call for Proposals

The AHA is accepting proposals until February 15, 2019 at  https://www.historians.org/annual-meeting/future-meetings/call-for-proposals  In addition to co-sponsoring panels accepted through the regular AHA application process, SHGAPE sponsors its own panels.  To apply for SHGAPE co-sponsorship, you should click that option when you upload your application on the AHA website.  You should also email your application (in one .pdf file) to program committee chair Nancy Unger, nunger@scu.edu.  This will also place your application into consideration for exclusive SHGAPE sponsorship.  Your application should include the information requested by the AHA program committee:

– A session title and abstract of no more than 500 words for the session as a whole

– Name of the session organizer (who will serve as the contact person)

– Names, e-mail addresses, and affiliations and for all participants
