The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) co-sponsors and sponsors panels at both the annual meeting of the American Historical Association and the annual meeting of the Organization of American Historians. SHGAPE sponsorship can direct traffic to your panel. In addition, SHGAPE can sponsor panels that have not been accepted by the OAH or AHA selection committees. This can provide GAPE scholars another avenue to present at the OAH and AHA.
In addition, SHGAPE organizes workshops, roundtables, and chat room sessions at the OAH.
At the 2018 OAH Annual Meetings, SHGAPE is sponsoring fifteen panels. SHGAPE is also hosting a lunchtime chat room, led by Chris Nichols (Oregon State University) and Nancy Unger (Santa Clara University) on Saturday, April 14, based on their recently published Blackwell volume on the GAPE. In addition, we are participating in the OAH “Hey I Know Your Work!” mentorship program, which pairs graduate students with established scholars in their field. Finally, we will be hosting our annual reception and luncheon on Friday, April 13th. The luncheon will feature Erika Lee (University of Minnesota), the 2018 recipient of our distinguished historian award. Lee will deliver an address on “America First, Immigrants Last: American Xenophobia Then and Now.” Tickets can be reserved as part of the registration process for the OAH conference. Graduate students interested in a complimentary ticket for the luncheon should contact SHGAPE Executive Secretary Amy Wood.
The Organization of American Historians is accepting panel proposals beginning today, November 27th through January 12, 2018 for the OAH Annual Meeting to be held in Philadelphia from April 4-6, 2019 . See: OAH Call for Proposals In addition to co-sponsoring panels accepted through the regular OAH application process, SHGAPE sponsors its own panels independently of the OAH selection committee.
